Book Treasures 藏書店: a rebrand and a store the owner can run

A children's bookshop widening its catalogue to adult readers needed a brand that no longer read as a children's shop, and a website the owner could run without a designer. We revamped the logo, designed the store and built it on Shopify.

The brief

Grown-up, but not quiet

In March 2025 the shop was widening from children's books to a catalogue for adult readers too, and the website had to carry the change. The owner's answers to our intake form were clear about what to avoid: neutral, not overly feminine, modern and fresh, expressive and dynamic, nothing that read as a traditional or quiet bookstore. The site needed filters by genre, age group and language, pre-orders with payment, and sign-ups for reading clubs and workshops. The owner would run it alone afterwards.

The logo

Four directions, then one mark

We showed four logo directions in March 2025. The chosen one keeps 藏 large and black, with 書店 on an orange bookmark.

The store

The wait was the design problem

Books arrive on pre-order, so a customer waits 14 to 30 days. We treated that wait as part of the design. Five changes state it before checkout, not after: a hover message with the 14 to 30 day window, the same terms in the reply after purchase, terms on each book page, Notify Me on out-of-stock titles, and Request Book retitled 訂購書目.

  1. 01
Less is moreWe used Shopify's built-in tools rather than custom sliders and countdowns, so the store stays flexible and the owner can edit it.
  2. 02
A square logo, centredThe new logo is square, so we centred it on the home page: more presence, and no crowding of the menu.
  3. 03
Built to hand overDesigned in Figma and built in native Shopify, so the owner can edit the store without us.
  4. 04
Booking for clubs and workshopsWe compared three Shopify booking apps for reading club and workshop sign-ups.

Earlier work

A shop reel, July 2024

This was the owner's second project with us. The first was a video day in July 2024 that produced two 4K advertisements and two vertical reels.
